Our Commitment
Fresh Food Network is a nonprofit organization committed to ensuring that our website and digital services are accessible to everyone, including people with disabilities. We believe food access information should be barrier-free, and we strive to meet or exceed the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA standards.
Accessibility Features
We have implemented the following accessibility features across our platform:
- Keyboard Navigation: All interactive elements are accessible via keyboard, including our map, search, and navigation menus
- Screen Reader Support: Our pages use semantic HTML, ARIA labels, and descriptive alt text for images
- Skip Navigation: A "Skip to main content" link is provided on every page
- Color Contrast: Text and interactive elements meet WCAG AA contrast ratio requirements
- Responsive Design: Our site adapts to all screen sizes and supports text resizing up to 200%
- Focus Indicators: Visible focus indicators are provided for all interactive elements
- Alternative Text: Images include descriptive alternative text
- Form Labels: All form inputs have associated labels and error messages
Standards We Follow
Our accessibility efforts are guided by:
- Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA
- Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act
- Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Title III
- WAI-ARIA (Accessible Rich Internet Applications) best practices
Known Limitations
While we strive for full accessibility, some areas may have limitations:
- Interactive Maps: Our Mapbox-powered maps may have limited screen reader support. We provide an alternative list view of all locations for full accessibility.
- Third-Party Content: Some embedded content from third-party services may not fully meet accessibility standards.
- User-Uploaded Images: Photos uploaded by community members may not always include descriptive alt text.
We are actively working to address these limitations and improve accessibility across the platform.
Assistive Technologies
Our website is designed to be compatible with common assistive technologies, including:
- Screen readers (NVDA, JAWS, VoiceOver, TalkBack)
- Screen magnification software
- Speech recognition software
- Keyboard-only navigation
- Switch devices and other alternative input devices
